What makes you different?

About 10 years ago, I was being interviewed for some random design publication.

At one point, the interviewer hit me with a question that stopped me in my tracks:

“What makes you different?”

Simple question right?

Well ... I froze.

After a moment of sheer panic, I mumbled something like, “We care more.”

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It was painful.

I vividly remember cringing at myself as the words left my mouth, lol.

Here I was—a supposed “branding expert”—and I couldn’t even articulate what made me stand out.

The truth was, I didn’t really know. People just hired my agency, we did the work, and that was that 🤷‍♂️.

I had never taken the time to step back, reflect, and define what truly set me apart from everyone else.

Looking back now, I realize what made me different: my taste. It's my greatest asset.

That’s why people hired my agency back then, and it’s why they hire me today.

This taste wasn’t random—it was honed over years of experiences, careful observation, and the endless pursuit of quality. It’s the result of paying attention to the little details most people overlook, trusting my instincts, and constantly refining my eye.

But here’s the thing: it’s still a work in progress.

My taste is always evolving, and I’m still learning more about myself every day.

I’m learning what kind of clients and projects energize me—and which ones don’t.

So now, I’ll turn the question to you:

Do you really know what makes you different?

If you do, I’d love to hear it!

And if you’re still figuring it out—or just want an outside perspective—let me know. I’d be happy to share what I see.
