What is a brand?

How would you define "brand"?

I've always loved this simple way of putting it:

"Your brand is what other people say about you when you're not in the room."

(The Internet will tell you Jeff Bezos said this, and I'm sure he did... but I'm 90% sure the original quote came from Al Ries)

Regardless, the exciting part, and the reason I have a job, is that we have the ability to influence what others may say when we're not around.

Most commonly via:

  • the way we look
  • the words we choose
  • the actions we take

You could go even further:

  • the way we feel
  • the way we smell
  • the way sound

The more you can keep all of these in unison, the clearer of a space you can own in the mind of your prospect.

And the more you align these inputs with the ideals of your prospect, the more likely they are to become a customer.
