is it just luck?

Nashville is music city.

It's also where I've lived for 16 years now!

Almost everyone here plays an instrument or is connected to music in some way.

Myself included.

Many close friends of mine are extremely talented musicians.

But only a select few have really "hit it big", so to speak.

In the ones that have made it, I've observed a few recurring traits:

  1. Vulnerability – They're willing to find and lean on their unique voice at the risk of looking dumb. They share straight from the heart without "manufacturing" anything for the listener.
  2. Tenacity – They don't let one failure knock them down. They constantly roll with the punches with the big vision in sight. I find this extremely admirable.
  3. Confidence – They have confidence in their ability and their vision. They care a lot more about creating art that's true to them as opposed to what they think the market wants to hear.

If you talk to any successful entrepreneur, I guarantee you'll see these qualities in them.

The funny part is ... many of these success stories attribute it all to "luck".

"Luck always favors the brave, and never helps a man who does not help himself."
P. T. Barnum
