Idea wranglin'
Late last night, I returned home from a short trip to San Diego, where I was able to catch up with my friend Bernard of The Virgin Organic. As the founder, he’s the driving force behind a constant stream of ideas—with easily 10 to 20 great new ideas daily—so keeping everything organized and prioritized is critical as we gear up for our big launch in the coming weeks.
With just a few of us handling most of the legwork, we needed a structured way to capture Bernard’s ideas, prioritize tasks, and keep the team focused without getting overwhelmed. So, we spent the day going over the status of everything — and making note of everything that needs to happen and who's responsible for it. Then I refined our workflow a bit to ensure nothing slips through the cracks:
The system is simple: Bernard offloads everything to me, and I filter, prioritize, and delegate accordingly. This creates a single source of truth for the team, eliminating the chaos of scattered messages across email, Slack, and texts. It’s a process similar to the one I shared a few weeks ago.
My goal is to make Garrett + JM's jobs as easy as possible so they can do their best work. Eventually, I see this role being handed off to an assistant or project manager, but for now, while we're in the thick of it, having a structured flow ensures we stay aligned and execute effectively.
